Robust Ghost Pipefish (Solenostomus cyanopterus) are the largest of the Ghost Pipefish species. They use their excellent camouflage as defence, and normally float around in the water with their long snouts facing downwards. They inhabit the Indo-Pacific region from the Red Sea to the western Pacific Ocean.
Robust Ghostpipefish are very well-camouflaged and closely mimic algae or seagrass leaves. This large species has a long tubular snout, a very short caudal peduncle, and varies in colour from red, yellow, brown to green, often with darker mottling.
